Pentathlon
Apr. 26th, 2009 12:25 amPentathlon was today (well, yesterday as of this posting) and I had a blast. It was the first time I'd ever entered an A&S competition in the SCA, and the first time I'd judged one. I was flung headfirst into the experience, judging in five categories. Two of them were composition (poetry and prose) and were thus read, discussed and adjudicated before the event. I judged the three heraldic categories today, and got to see some breathtakingly remarkable entries, including a magnificent reproduction of the same roll of arms I mentioned two posts ago, the Zurich Roll, using SCA heraldry. The attention to detail and the amount of preparatory research were impeccable, and it was a sheer delight to have been able to review the piece.
I've got a new idea percolating now to reproduce the described artifacts and actions described in Rene of Anjou's Tournament Book. More on this later.
