I had to go up to Bakersfield to take care of my VA tuition waiver for the next year. Since I was here, I stopped by F&M Fabric, the awesome discount fabric store. I bought about 25 yards of linen and linen blends in various colors, all at $2 a yard, including:

7 yards lavender
5 yards dolce de leche/green (depending on the light)
5 yards each of plum and slate/sage (again, depending on the light)
3 yards of vibrant medium blue

I may go back today (Wednesday) to get some black and/or natural, and there's 2 yards of a nice dark olive green. Not enough to make a tunic, but maybe enough for facings or something.

I'm finally going to have tunics that aren't "natural" colored! YAY!

Oh, if anyone has any requests for $2 linen, call me before noon or respond to this before 10:00 AM with color and yardage preferences, and I will do the best that I can to accomodate your requests.

Of course I want $2 linen. Any color! Any weight! Unfortunately, I've been put on a fabric diet and I have to use some of the 1000+ yards I have in the house before I am allowed to purchase anything more that isn't for a very specific project.

Damn.

I would not deign to hinder your fabric diet. Let me know when you get through your own yardage, and I'll let you know when I'm up in Bakersfield again.

If you think it would be suitable, I'd like some of the "vibrant medium blue" for that long-belated kingdom herald's tabard I keep threatening to make... 4 yards should suffice. 4 yards of white for the trim, so I can cut it on the bias. I will fling you money at Coronation, yes? Or at Potrero if you are going but that's a mortal long trip.

Many thanks in advance!

I got 4 of each. That's 8 yds.*$2/yd = $16. Adding in Bakersfield sales tax of 6.25%, and the final bill is exactly $17. I'll see you at Coronation! :)

Dark blue or dark green and a nice natural white, please. Say about 10 of each? I will drive up and give you money next week, or at Potrero if you're going to be there.

Couldn't find dark green, but there was a roll of dark blue that had 11.5 yards. Figured it wasn't worth anyone's time to leave a yard and a half on the bolt, so I picked up the lot. I also got 10 of the natural white. So that's $46, give or take. If you don't want the extra yard and a half, I'll keep it, bringing it to $42.50

Cool. You going to Potrero? If not, let me know what times next week (evenings, since I have work during the day) work best for you.

Not going to Potrero. Any evening next week is fine. Just give me a call ahead of time and let me know you're on your way.

I didn't have great luck at F&M the one time I was there. I bought a couple of different things that they said were linen which turned out not to be.

I go by feel, not by what the guys say. They'd tell you plastic sheet was 100% linen if they thought you'd buy it.
