Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Scottishdm's Wishlist:
1. First off: cloth and garb. I'll be playing Father Christmas this year at Lyondemere Anniversary (and wouldn't mind doing it next year, and the year after that, and the year after that...). Anyhow, there's this beautiful but expensive ($12/yd) embroidered velvet at Joanne's, in this year's holiday fabric line, that would make a magnificent F.C. coat and/or undertunic for next year; I hope it goes on sale after the holidays. In the meantime, I'm still looking for 5-6 yds of dark green wool for the jacket.
2. Also, new monk's robes, or the linen/suit-weight wool to make them: Black, brown, grey. My current ones are on their last legs, and every time I wash them they fall apart at the seams :(. To go with them, a pallium (full-circle o' fabric with slits for the arms and head that acts as an overgown for medieval academic garb).
3. A new (to me) leather ring belt, long enough to get around me and still have a fashionable hang, and/or a proper leather pouch to hang from it (sick of fabric pouches).
4. Assistance in making chasubles. I want to make two "kingdom" chasubles (one painted [reversible, with the kingdom arms on one side and the Queen's arms on the other], the other finely couched in metallic thread), and one ecclesiastical chasuble with the central symbol being a grail/chalice. If you have experience painting fabric in a way that the paint will last and the fabric won't get stiff, or if you have experience laying down thread/bullion, I'd like to speak with you.
5. (A whole bunch of) various and sundry pieces of personal armorial display; banners, tabards, pillows, signs, camp entryways, etc. Note for beginning/lazy sewers: my household banner is about the easiest thing you can sew. One straight central seam, hems on four edges (less if you work on selvedge), and loops. That's it. No applique, no funny edges. And my device is almost as easy.
6. A sturdy 12'x12' EZ-Up, or a period, weather-resistant dayshade.
7. Movies on the King Arthur mythos I don't already have (which are: Excalibur, Merlin, Guinevere, First Knight, King Arthur, Monty Python and the Holy Grail)
8. A week-long holiday break for two, at my grandparent's beach house in Morro Bay.
9. The final pieces I need to complete my armor, so I can go out and fight.
10. It's a long shot, but a VW Microbus in relatively good condition.
