Interview meme, take 4
Jun. 4th, 2008 06:48 pm1. You used to be a fencer, do you miss that?
Sometimes, I do. The camaraderie of the fencing community is something I've not quite found elsewhere.
2. You used to fight several forms now that I think of it. Do you plan to get back to any of them?
Obviously not shinai, though I do find the unarmored combat which has replaced the old form to be fascinating. I still have most of my rapier gear, though quite a bit of it doesn't fit anymore. And I'm slowly getting my heavies kit back together. But, as with all things, fighting takes time, and I've been extremely busy for the past...well, 4 years.
3. If the SCA was outlawed tomorrow, what would you do for fun?
Break the law. Unless there was a compelling reason for the SCA to be outlawed, I'd continue to play. However, if the SCA disappeared tomorrow, I'd probably play video games, read, and write presentation papers.
4. If I forced you to watch a sporting event on TV but gave you the choice of what it was, what would you pick and why?
Collegiate or Olympic fencing. Because it's a beautiful sport.
5. How did you get into the SCA?
As I was taking my first fencing class in the SCA, the instructor announced that she would be retiring at the end of the semester. Distraught, the new fencers in the class got together and tried to figure out what to do next. I'd mentioned that there were these crazies in the park back home who did fencing, and I would check it out; if it was worthwhile, I'd bring it back so we could continue fencing. The "crazies in the park" were Malcolm Aikman, Martin FitzJames, your niece and her boyfriend, and the other Wintermistians at fighter practice. The rest is history.

Date: 2008-06-05 08:47 am (UTC)2. If you could bring back one SCA event (either another kingdom's event never seen in Caid, or an old Caidan event that has been lost in the mists of antiquity), which would it be, and why?
3. Other than what appears in Corpora, what defines a peer of the realm to you? Is it something that can be learned and earned, or is there a certain je ne sais quoi to it that people either have, or don't?
4. Your device consists of an eagle-dragon beastie. Does this have particular significance, or was it just something that came to you?
5. Of all the changes that have happened in the SCA since you joined, which are the most positive, and which are the most regrettable?

Date: 2008-06-06 05:02 pm (UTC)1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me" or something of an equally pithy nature.
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions of a very personal nature. Be warned!
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions, or there will be trouble.
4. You will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.
And now, your five questions:
1. Your move to a new state has had its ups and downs. What's been the best thing about the move, and what's been the most regrettable?
2. Caid vs. Meridies. Discuss.
3. The art of blacksmithing is an ancient one, and you have excellet greatly in the field. Honing your skills takes an awful lot of time, effort and sacrifice. So who's your money on, Lakers or Celtics?
4. Seriously, back to smithing. What portion of the creative process is most satisfying to you? Is it the planning and preparation, the shaping, the honing, the finished product, the reaction of others?
5. As a white scarf and a Herald, you had some considerable social capital going into a new kingdom. Has it helped in the integration process?
