This must be what the 1960 presidential campaign felt like.

I've never seen a speech like it. It had Rachel Maddow and Pat Buchanan, people who couldn't be more different politically from each other if they tried, picking their jaws up off the ground and agreeing, "BEST SPEECH EVAH!" I still have goosebumps.

If you watch the speech and still vote for McCain in November, there's absolutely no hope for you.

It was a fantastic speech. But we already knew he could give incredible speeches: that's how he exploded into the public consciousness in the first place. To me the day-to-day activities of his campaigning are far more important and indicative of his potential than a speech he's probably been planning for six months or more.

I agree with you that his campaign tactics are far more important than his speech, but as an English major it was nice to have a strong, eloquent departure from Nukular George and Mumbles Magoo.

I especially appreciated the part where he insisted that the election was too important to stoop to character attacks instead of focusing on the actual issues.

It didn't make my eyes well up like his speech at the '04 convention, or his speech on race, but it did still touch me deeply, and it made me proud to be a supporter of his.

Incidentally, in the 20 years I've been voting, this is the first time I have ever contributed to a campaign. (Not sure why I didn't in 2000...maybe GWB is my fault!!)
