I've just put a $5,000 good-faith deposit on an offer I'm making on a 2-bedroom 1-1/2-bathroom condo 3 blocks from where I work. More details to follow...
I *think* I understand what you're saying, though of course photos of current AEthelmearcan tabards with the band wouldn't hurt my understanding. If this is truly a non-tabard, but in fact a proper, sewn-sided garment like a tunic, then the wide gold hem and trimmed sleeves is no real problem. At that point, your heraldic display would be from shoulder to shoulder, neck to waistline, and you'd have your swords fit within that space (alternately, you could place the crossed swords over the left breast, a la Garter cloaks).
Alas, I have no photos of current AE tabards...we don't normally carry a camera at Pennsic, but this year Finar did, so as to compile for me a visual tour of friends and favorite places...but he left it over at Justina's when he was on the battlefield (wisely, for the camera's sake).
But yes, the garment is as you describe it above (better than I did)...a fully finished tunic with full sleeves and a walking slit front and back, and fully sewn sides...and yes, I'm aiming to place the heraldic display just as you describe. I'm still debating the trim...it might be a bit much.
You'll likely get to see this at GWW (where I plan to have it as a surprise for Finar)...we'll be camped with Justina.
Thank you AGAIN for all the help, and how exciting about the condo!
