At least the one we're going through does. They assigned our account to someone who promptly quit due to other circumstances within the company (we've heard four different versions of this story from the company). We're not sure how much time passed before someone else was assigned to our case, but the good faith check still hasn't been cashed, they haven't found the HOA rules and regulations, and they haven't filed the certifications needed to push the home loan through. We were supposed to close escrow on October 9, but thanks to the geniuses at the escrow company, we have to extend by another 30 days.

The upside? More time to pack.

The downside? More time in the apartment complex, which is starting to slide downhill very, very quickly.

email me the address of your new house, I'll see if I can use my super HOA assistant powers to snag you info about the HOA (like the rues and regs and the CC&R's)

Our realtor tracked them down and paid the money herself (she'll be reimbursed). But the other bits are all about the escrow company. Thanks for the offer, though.

I couldn't get escrow to close on time the first try either. Escrow is a process not a project. A project has check points and due dates. A process just runs on and on until some vague point at which it's done.

Uhm... you need to talk to a supervisor and demand them to pay your rent or something at your apartment. This was not your fault and you shouldn't have to pay the penalty.

I'm not sure if we can legally ask them to pay our rent, but I'll ask the realtor.

You SHOULD be able to ask for some sort of refund because they screwed up. My mother is selling her house right now and they are doing something similar for her. It's all a matter of how well your realtor works (and if they are willing to ask). What's the worst they can say? NO?

And you don't have to interrupt GWW for a trip home to sign.

Amen. Actually, we were told that we would take care of the signing once we got back on Tuesday. But now, we don't have to worry about war and packing at the same time, which is even better.

That's an issue we're going to have when we move. Our lease expires Sept. 30. So, we would have to move out at the beginning of Sept and lose a month or break the lease and pay an extra month's penalty or go month to month which is brutally expensive.

Next year is going to be fun.

Glad I'm living at home in a place with no mortgage. Condolences, eh?
